Scientifically named Centella asiatica, Gotu Kola is a perennial herb native to much of southeast Asia widely used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. It is consumed extensively in Sri Lanka and other parts of southeast Asia for its trusted health properties.
Belonging to the parsley family, the plant is shaped like a small round-leafed clover. Its leaves gently curl up to create a cone shape thus giving its name ‘Gotu’ meaning cone shaped and ‘Kola’ meaning leaf.
This water-loving plant is typically collected from the wild which raises serious health concerns as Gotu Kola is known to easily absorb heavy metals or toxins from the soil and water in which it is grown. Therefore, we take great care to ensure that “clean” Gotu Kola is organically cultivated in home gardens of Sri Lanka making it all-natural and preservative-free.
